It's OK for Beginners

I bought the book with lot of expectations; I thought I would get to understand in depth how the asynchronous model works, explaining various scenarios, esp. in Windows 8/RT and web, where async would be useful. However, having read this wonderful document ([...]) by Stephen Toub many times and been comfortable with Task-based Asynchronous Programming (TAP) with the help of MSDN, this book disappointed me to some extent. The book in deed has a reference to the Stephen's document as well (Async uses TAP behind the scenes). I found chapter 14 (The Async Compiler Transform - In Depth) was useful. Otherwise, it's all the familiar stuff if you already know TAP; I think Stephen's document acted as too much of a spoiler for this book, at least for me!

With a book dedicated to Async, my assumption was that it would go deep into how to use Async, and the patterns to watch for. E.g. Dont' open a DB connection outside of a task, Best practise for catching and managing errors during parallel execution of tasks, etc. etc.

I was really into these 2 books. However it ended terribly, and there was no indication, of more books coming to correct this horrible let down. I don't know how an Author can just leave readers hanging like this. If I have missed something I am sorry, however it doesn't seem like I have.

From the dedicated given to this book, it must have been hard to write it. I've been waiting for what seems like forever for part two to come out. Calla seems to become more involved with Keir and seems to be falling for him as he is for her, but he wants to keep that danger out of her life. He's looking for his brother so they come across two companies they leave a message at one.... later that evening he was captured along with the girls.

I hope you don't make us wait too much longer for part three... totally loved the series

great edition, good for kids or adults!

The book is a great little kindle book that is a children's version of the longer book. I believe the targeted age is about 10 and older, but don't let the word "children" fool you...I think anyone, any age could read and enjoy this book! That being said, I think that Larsen did a great job at taking some deeper plot issues and making them easier to read and understand for a 10 year old. Fantine, for example was done really well. I think my kids could read this section and understand the sacrifice that she was making, without having to know some of the nitty gritty details.

I found the book easy to read and was able to enjoy the book in about a day. There is no way I could do that with the original version. The book was a great little escape into a classic book, that allowed me to dive into it and feel the story, without having to commit to the time it would have taken to read otherwise.But at the same time I really felt this didn't lack on the plot lines or character development. By the end of the book I was pretty emotionally tied to the characters.

Judy Brown has more than 30 years of instructional experience in the field of nutrition.
