An ending with a HEA and an epilogue.... interesting concept!

I am sure that i am not the only one that is not appreciative of all the cliffhangers and 40 part series that seem to the trend these days. So happy that this author gave me what i needed. A hell of a good story and a dern HEA to boot.
Can't wait for Spike's story.

Intense!!

This was a great story. I was in the mood for a gritty, sexy MC story and boy am I glad I picked this one.
I enjoyed the characters and learning what they have gone through was gut wrenching - especially Addison. That poor girl has gone through hell her whole life. I'm so glad she had a man like Cade to take care of her and save her. I really liked Jackson too - he's a great dad for the short time he and Addison have been together but going forward I'm sure he'll protect her as if he's been doing it his whole life.
I'm looking forward to continuing on with the series and getting to know Spike better too.

Enjoyable Read

I love Biker books and this one didn't disappoint. It had me laughing at some of the antics and tearful for some of the situations the characters had to go through. Addison is a great character, she had lived through so much for her twenty-one years and deserves some loving. Cade is gorgeous, had tragedies of his own and is trying to live with his guilt. These two are so good for each other and Cade can give Addison lots of loving and he does, just beautiful. Great read for a first book and I look forward to the next one. No Cliffhangers, hooray!

About the Author
Barbara Rogoff is UCSC Foundation Distinguished Professor of Psychology at the University of California, Santa Cruz. She has been a Fellow of the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford, a Kellogg Fellow, and Editor of Human Development. Her books Apprenticeship in Thinking (OUP, 1990), Learning Together (OUP, 2001), and The Cultural Nature of Human Development (OUP, 2003) have received awards from the American Psychological Association and the American Educational Research Association. Her current book, Developing Destinies, deepens the ideas presented in her previous books, building on her three decades of research on human development in a Mayan community in Guatemala.

Barbara Rogoff received the 2013 Award for Distinguished Contributions to Cultural and Contextual Factors in Child Development, from the Society for Research in Child Development.
The citation read: "For her brilliant insights about and specification of development as a cultural process;
For her highly influential research and writing underscoring the influences of parental practices;

Essential reading for any scientist concerned with human neurodevelopment.

We cannot understand the structure and organization of an adult human brain if we cannot account for how it developed. This beautifully written summary of a vast amount of developmental ethnography demonstrates the great diversity of human development, embedded as it is in specific cultural practices. This book should be the springboard for a host of human cognitive and neuroanthropological studies.

Rogoff's acclaimed concepts about how human development and culture naturally intertwine unfold in a highly intricate matter within this text.

Like Jerome Bruner, her prose can overpopulate itself with too many techy terms for the average educator; however, if you can push through the woods of her thick style, you will uncover many truths about culture.

As she puts forth, culture springs from the natural progression of social history and interaction. Each culture possesses its own scripts and nuances on what exists as "typical" development.

Leaves A Lot Unsaid ....

I looked at the sample which claimed this book did not require any knowledge of C# or VB. I was looking for a resource to show me how to connect, and use, SQL databases with C# and Visual Studio 2010. I have plenty of experience in xBase languages, but need to make this transition. Since the book was just published, I figured this was a good choice.

Sadly, it seems like the author sat at the computer and dictated a text of what he was doing, and then said "copy this". Well, that includes his own directories, called resources that are likely not on your computer, and then a lot of code without any explanation of its purpose, or definition of its use. Example: He says "If you don't have the Northwind database you can download it from the Microsoft web site." Actually, its not that easy ! Also, he doesn't state that you want an Access install of this database. He then goes on to list a lot of code to type in, with no explanation of what you are actually doing.

This may be quite good for someone who is totally articulate in .NET and all of the Windows programming options, but for someone who is not, its just a smoke filled room that is hard to navigate and understand.

I'll come back to it after I work through other materials and hopefully it will make better sense then. For now, its just going to sit on my virtual bookshelf.

Perfect Timing

I was having trouble getting database access working in C# and this book was exactly what I needed. I downloaded it to my iPad and today has turned out to be a very productive day. The examples are clear and easy to follow so I was able to overcome my hurdles and make up some lost time on my project. I didn't have to skim through lots of blah, blah, blah on the history of VBA or any other dribble. It was too the point and exactly what I need to get the job done. Thank you Michael Schmalz and O'Reilly.

I would look elsewhere for instruction

I learned a few things from this book but even when following the script samples, I experienced issues compiling. Beyond the code samples, there seemed to be very little substance to this book.

Leadership Wisdom

This is a good introductory book into the principles and practice of leadership. It teaches about the leadership skills that are critical in today's highly dynamic operating environment where change is the only constant. In this case, it is essential to have leaders (rather than managers) who can provide the vision for the organization, show the direction and motivate people towards the realization of the vision.

The author clearly explains the critical attributes of a leader which include team building, good communication skills, decision making ability, and the ability to motivate and coach others for the effective accomplishment of goals.

The book is a good investment for those who in leadership positions, particularly those who are at the beginning of their careers in this field without much experience or previous training. The author gives useful tips which are excellent guide readers. The checklist at the end of each chapter is a useful tool to reinforce what the reader would have studied in the text.

If this book were an entr�e, it would mostly consist of meat and potatoes. Author Marlene Caroselli accompanies her valuable handbook on the basics of leadership with insightful quotations and anecdotes. "Basic" is the operative word here. The book makes no pretense, for example, of delving into the theoretical side of leadership development. Nor does it prepare managers for specific business tasks that they're more likely to encounter as leaders, such as budgeting and strategic planning. Rather, this book is specifically tailored for current managers who have leadership ambitions, and for newly minted leaders who need a little expertise to seize control of their new roles. We recommend it as a solid menu option with lots of good advice for that eager-to-lead audience. The book is thoroughly crafted to achieve its purpose, though more experienced readers may find themselves asking, "Where's the gravy?"

I disagree with some criticism this book has received. First off, I’ve been following Courtney’s work for years and she has a special talent for writing hidden details. Some parts of this book require some imagination, but that’s how she wrote it. The multiple transformations (both mentally and physically) are well depicted and the story is just the right length. As stated, there is no sex in this story although there are some sexy moments that lead you to believe what is implied and that sometimes is more attractive than straight up sex. Keep in mind, Courtney has specialized in “clean” TG Fiction since she started and it’s a nice breathe of fresh air compared to other TG stories I’ve seen on Amazon!

I loved how all the characters had a unique personality! The changes in body and mind went very well! There were a few minor spelling errors, but otherwise, it was a fun and worthwhile story!

Full House is great

Courtney does an amazing job of telling the story of how a group of four college guys become a family complete with a husband, wife, and daughters. Courtney is one of the top authors in the TG field. I highly suggest her other stories.

The various heroes, risk-takers, incompetents, and individualists Krakauer captures are more than colorful, whether they summit or not. Climber-turned-journalist Krakauer circles around the question of why a climber climbs by writing of various aspects of that culture. Revising pieces that appeared in Outside and Smithsonian magazines, he describes being tent-bound in a storm, and the competition among bush pilots flying climbers to Denali. Fresh material discusses related sports: frozen waterwall climbing and box canyon exploration. The obligatory chapters on particular climbs--an aborted attempt on the Eiger Nordwand, a lone ascent of the Devil's Thumb--are less successful in revealing to nonclimbers the emotions that drive a climber. Entertaining but not memorable.

A great read for those at sea level and rising

How to do justice to a writer like Krakauer....well, he's such a good writer that I feel any review I write would suffer compared to the source. Nevertheless, here I go.
This is Krakauer's first book. It's a collection of his previously published articles on mountaineering (save the last one about Devil's Thumb which was written for the book.) What a gread read too whether you are an afficionado of the sport or, like me, you've never seen a pair of crampons in your life (by the way, those are a set of spikes climbers strap to their boots to support themselves and prevent slipping on icy slopes.) Some of the famous peaks that make an appearance here include K2, Mt McKinley, and the titular Eiger. Throughout you will read about some of the eccentric personalities in the international climbing community, personal triumph and inspiration, offshoots like bouldering and waterfall climbing, and horrific tragedy.
If you read Into Thin Air, you'll be surprised at how funny this book is. Krakauer displays a wry, self-deprecating wit in several of these stories-something the somber subject matter of the latter book didn't permit. The last one, about his decision to solo the Devil's Thumb in Alaska in his early twenties is hysterical.
Anyone who can make a story about being tentbound or the inventor of the perfect ice axe riveting deserves attention. If you are on the fence, just go ahead and get this book. It's definitely worth it.

Excellent Collection of Stories

"Eiger Dreams" is a compelling collection of twelve stories by mountaineering writer Jon Krakauer. Included are several first person accounts of his own adventures, including his life-defining attempt to climb the Devil's Thimb in Alaska as a young man and his later failed attempt to scale the Eiger face. Krakauer also failed in his attempt to climb Mount McKinley, but manages to say more with one of his defeats than other climbers do with their success.
Krakauer also proves himself to be a first rate reporter with his accounts of other mountaineering stories. Particularly good is his tale of John Gill, the man who practically invented "bouldering." Krakauer goes on to describe waterfall climbing, canyoneering and the horrors of being tent bound with his deft narrative touch. At 186 pages, and featuring his easily readable prose, the book is a delightful experience for those who like good adventure stories of the kind featured in Outside Magazine.

I got vertigo reading this

I've read three of Krakauer's books including this one. Into Thin Air is eclipsed by Kenneth Kamler's Doctor On Everest, but Krakauer's own Under The Banner Of Heaven and Eiger Dreams are in a class by themselves. I have never had a fear of heights, but the stories in this book, particularly the one of his climb of the Devil's Thumb, a volcanic chimney in Alaska, lifting hundreds of feet into thin air is perhaps one of the most evocative pieces of writing I've ever read.
